Allen Carr’s Easy Way To Stop Smoking

A book reflection by Leigh Martinuzzi

Allen Carr is a disciplined man, always has been. As a professional and successful accountant for many years, life was good. There was only one matter that caused him a great deal of pain and suffering – his addiction to nicotine. When he eventually quit smoking, with ease, he decided to go out and help others. He was driven to help cure the world’s smokers.

In Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking, he explains how he went from smoking 100 cigarettes a day to zero without suffering. For 30 years Allen was a chain-smoker. He couldn’t do anything without first lighting up. As nicotine addiction progresses, it takes over our lives until it eventually destroys our life. (more…)

Immanuel Kant, an 18th-century German Philosopher, said that the path towards enlightenment is to free oneself of their Self-Incurred immaturity. What does that entail? (more…)

585 A Short History of Truth: Consolations for a Post-Truth World by Julian Baggini

A Short History of Truth: Consolations for a Post-Truth World

A book reflection by Leigh Martinuzzi

In this book, the author, Julian Baggini, explores ten types of supposed truth. The purpose of this writing, I guess, is to give us comfort in truth in a world that is polarised by so many conflicting untruths. It helps us understand what truth is, how and why it can be distorted or misleading, and how we may find truth within the truth.

Julian Baggini is a writer, best-selling author, and philosopher. He has written and co-authored several other books including Edge of Reason, The Ego Trick and What’s It All About. Like myself, Julian is passionate about the search for meaning in a life full of mystery and marvel – exploring small thoughts about big things and big thoughts about small things. (more…)

The Beginnings of a Positive Mindset

by Leigh Martinuzzi

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.” Roy T. Bennett

As Michael Hyatt points out is that we can alter our happiness levels by merely smiling more. There is a direct correlation between smiling and positivity. Smiling produces positive emotions that benefit our well-being. Not to mention the reaction from others we receive when we give them a friendly smile. It can only be a good thing. (more…)

581 Addiction: A Philosophical Perspective by Candice Shelby – A Book Reflection by Leigh Martinuzzi

Addiction: A Philosophical Perspective by Candice Shelby

A book reflection by Leigh Martinuzzi

Addiction is real! I hate my addictions both current and past. I’ve suffered from a few for what seems like a lifetime. It is a significant part of the human condition. It has been argued to be a condition that influences many living species. In some way, shape or form, I would say that we are all prone and exposed to addiction at some stage in our life.

My interest in addiction is personal however from what I can tell; it’s common for all. Many make claims that addiction is a disease however as Candice Shelby in her book Addiction explains is an addiction is a phenomenon that is best solved on many different levels at once. (more…)
