The Essential Laws of Fearless Living: Find the Power to Never Feel Powerless Again By Guy Finley

“The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.”

The idea that we limit our ability to live into our full potential and to live this life without ever having accomplished all those dreams and desires we have scares me. It is a fear of mine to reach the end having this inner sense of regret. This is why I take purposeful action towards living my why and following the path which is my own journey. I believe it is on this path that greater freedom, fulfilment and happiness can not only be reached but are actually lived by following this path.

Fear however does slow me. It slows many of us. While I am committed and to some levels fearless towards creating my own path in this life, one that is true to my Self, my self-limiting beliefs around what is possible can get in the way – often enough! As Guy eludes to in the above quote it’s my lacking of understanding and knowledge that truly slows me and therefore perhaps nothing else. (more…)

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

The word alchemy comes from the Greek word Khemeia that means “art of transmuting metals.” This is apparently an ancient art that people have been trying to work on for millennia with little success. Particularly the attempt to turn common metals into gold. This book is an inspiring story of a Shepard boy, Santiago, on his journey of life and like alchemy awakens his essence and turns it to gold.

It has been a book on me to read list for some time and I am glad to have finally read it. Actually, it was one I was going to read but instead got an Audible copy to listen to. This book is a very suitable book to listen to in audio form as it tells a story. Non-fiction books and other educational books often are better in hard copy. It was also narrated by Jeremy Irons – a very suitable and enjoyable voice to listen to. You can 2 Free audio books when you trial Audible here today.

When Awareness Becomes Natural: A Guide to Cultivating Mindfulness in Everyday Life by Sayadaw U Tejaniya

The more I practice mindfulness the more clarity I gain around my life and what it all means. Books like this assist greatly in understanding my practice. We are all bound by our minds and bodies and how they interact not only interdependently but also with the external reality. Like sponges, our minds and bodies absorb almost everything we are exposed to and if we are without awareness I believe we can become to much of everything else and less of our true selves.

There are both good and bad to what we can absorb yet regardless everything has the ultimate influence on how we behave and how we coexist. This coexistence is important with our outwardly relationships but even more paramount to the relationship with ourselves. Awareness not only allows us to better understand all this but also how we react, respond and allow it to direct our lives. If you desire happiness, which I think we all do, then awareness created through mindfulness practices is beneficial. (more…)

Emergence: Seven Steps for Radical Life Change by Derek Rydall

The author of this book, Derek Rydall, spreads messages of inspiration that we can all benefit from. The premise for the thought is that all that we are and all that we wish to be is already within us. He claims that self-help is dead and to really emerge into your full potential and purpose you need to know, as Derek states, “that life doesn’t happen to you it happens through you.”

He uses the analogy of the acorn that grows into the great Oak tree to define the Law of Emergence, a term he coined. Understanding that we have all risen from a seed and that, like an Oak that grows into something great, nothing needs to be added. All the the Oak is meant to become is already within.

He does suggest that personal development is an essential part of allowing our natural gifts and talents to flourish. Just as a tree will grow to its fullest potential when correctly cared for and nourished so will we.
